Brief Information Sitting Bull was a Hunkpapa Lakota leader who led his people during years of resistance against United States government policies. He is remembered for his spiritual leadership and for playing a significant role in the defeat of Custer's 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. He remained a figure of Native American resistance until his assassination in 1890.
